In the day of digital perfection, where music and computers have merged, and music can sometimes sound a bit too perfect and stale, this CD comes to life with various tracks of live club dates by a variety of San Francisco salsa bands in the 90s. The recordings are all uneven and the mix unpredictable - the source often being a lone tape player on the floor of the bandstand, but from this vantage point, one hears the energy in the room and the creative process at work. The playing is often rough and wrought with mistakes, but overall this CD is full of something hard to find on recordings these days - the real thing.
